Coastal Bedroom Ideas
One real bedroom taken coastal, shot from the same corner.
BeforeCoastal is a restrained palette doing a lot of the talking: white and off-white, a wash of blue, navy for weight, and natural texture underfoot. Here it lands as pale shiplap, navy-and-white stripes, a pair of muted sea prints and a white farmhouse bed. It reads breezy and beach-house, though the thick shag rug pulls it a shade warmer than a true coastal scheme.
The coastal look, in one real bedroom

Coastal
Pale blue-grey shiplap runs across the walls and the ceiling, with a white panelled headboard, navy euro shams and crisp navy-and-white striped bedding. Two muted seascapes hang above the bed, and a seagrass basket sits in the corner. It is calm and convincingly beach-house, but honest points: the shiplap on both walls and ceiling is a build, the render adds a second nightstand the real room lacks, and the deep shag rug is more farmhouse warmth than actual coastal.

Questions
- Do I need shiplap for a coastal bedroom?
- No, but it is what makes this render read so strongly coastal. You can get most of the mood with a pale blue-grey or soft white wall colour, then let the stripes, sea prints and natural textures do the work. Shiplap is the upgrade, not the requirement.
- What's the difference between coastal and coastal farmhouse?
- Coastal is cooler and crisper, more blue and white with flat woven textures like jute. Coastal farmhouse, which is closer to what this render shows, warms it up with shiplap, chunkier textiles and that deep shag rug. Same family, one beachier and one cosier.
- Does coastal have to be blue?
- Not heavily. The base is really white and natural texture, with blue as an accent rather than the whole scheme. Here it is mostly pale neutrals with navy and soft blue on the bed; you could dial the blue down further and still read coastal through the materials.
- Will it work away from the sea?
- Yes. Coastal is a palette and a set of textures, not a location, so it works anywhere you want an airy, light-filled room. Lean on the whites, the natural fibres and plenty of light and it reads calm rather than themed, wherever the house actually is.
- Can Inty show this in my bedroom?
- Yes. Inty reads your room from a single photo and redesigns it as coastal, among 200-plus styles. What you get is a visualization to plan from, so you can see how much of the look lands with paint and textiles before deciding whether shiplap is worth it.
